Early this year, our humble hotel in Jesmond was contacted by the people at the BBC, who were searching for amateur interior designers to be part of a new television show, Your Home in Their Hands. We jumped at the chance to be involved and could not wait to get the brief and start planning and prepping for the show. Your Home in Their Hands, Episode 1, featured the stunning chic, boutique hotel style bedroom and stylish vintage dining room, designed by us and was shown on Thursday 25th September on BBC1 at 8pm!
The filming began in our unique little hotel, right here in Jesmond. The BBC crew collected snap shots of the hotel and the quirky details which give the Rosebery bed and breakfast in Jesmond, its boutique style and friendly personality! Weeks of preparation went into the development of designs for the Lavery’s house. From choosing the right colours, to picking the best vintage items and sprucing them up, we worked really hard and made sure nothing was forgotten!
We were supplied with a brief… and when we say brief, we mean it! With not much information to go from, we collected some fabulous items, including the brilliant piano, planned the rooms with precision and headed down to Portsmouth with a Luton van full to the brim with vintage chic goodies, ready to create beautiful rooms for Yvonne and Dan, (the home owners who wanted interior design help). They live in Yvonne’s parents old home, and they really wanted an update and to put their own stamp on the rooms.
The first room was the bedroom, which started as quite a simply decorated room in a sky blue colour with a blue silhouette floral wallpaper and soft white drapes at the window. The boiler was in the corner,in a cupboard which was lost storage space, and the wardrobe made the room feel smaller. The plan was to utilise the space in the room to not just make a beautiful room, but to create a liveable space that the Lavery’s could enjoy being in. Please see our Before and After page to view the room transformation. Here you will also see the before and after of the dining room, which was the second room that was made over.
As a unique, boutique hotel in Newcastle, we were delighted to be allocated the bedroom and the dining room, as these are both rooms we have designed in the hotel.
