Things To Do in Newcastle and the Surrounding Area
Within 5 Minutes of The Hotel
Locally, there are a number of restaurants – Santana’s Italian is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, serving hearty Italian meals. Their bargain 3-course happy hour deals are not to be missed. They also do a takeaway service if you would prefer. For a light lunch, Dene’s Deli is a great little sandwich bar, which serves delicious handmade sandwiches and salads.
There are a number of takeaways a short distance from our Jesmond Hotel – Indian takeaway, Double Diner is particularly good and food can be ordered from the comfort of your room, using the Just Eat service. Long term guests are welcome to use the oven and microwave to prepare their meals and you may also use the fridge and freezer for storing food items.
If you are just looking for a snack or a packet of crisps to keep the kids happy, Rehills Convenience Store is just 1 minute away from the Hotel and has everything you could ever need. Open 10 am – 9:30 pm every day.
The Rosebery Hotel is located at the edge of the beautiful Jesmond Dene Park, which offers something for the whole family – Pets Corner for the kids, picnic areas for the tired parents, nature walks for the avid rambler and an old water mill for the history buff.
Within 10 Minutes of The Hotel
Just a 10-15 minute drive from the hotel is the gorgeous Long Sands Beach of Tynemouth – An ideal place for a long walk and lazy lunch and superb for a good dog walk.
If you are looking for fun night out, make sure you stop by As You Like It, a great bar and restaurant, which serves delicious food and has live music at the weekend. In addition, the busy Osbourne Road (5-10 minute walk) has an assortment of bars and restaurants to offer you a lively night out.
Newcastle City Centre
We adore Cafe 21 on the quayside, a little more pricey than the norm, but with our price accessible rooms, you will have a little bit more spare cash to splash. It offers superb quality food, exceptional service and an extensive wine list.
The Pitcher and Piano has a great view of the quayside and Millenium Bridge, the Baltic Quay and the bridges of the River Tyne, it really is a beautiful place to spend a day or night.
Heading Further Afield?

South Shields is around 20-25 minutes away by car. You can also take the Metro which is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, or the bus which can take around 45 minutes.
South Shields is a coastal town with beautiful sea views, seaside arcades, art, architecture and lots of events happening throughout the year. If you want a beach closer to the Rosebery, visit Tynemouth.
Hadrian’s Wall is around 60-80 minutes away from the hotel by car. The official mapped site for Hadrian’s Wall is CA8 7DD in Brampton.
Hadrian’s Wall is a great place of historic interest and also a super place to walk. With sites from Baring Street in South Shields, all the way to Maryport in Cumbria, there is so much to learn and some stunning views along the way.
Gibside is around 25-30 minutes away by car. The official site for Gibside is NE16 6BG, in Rowlands Gill. To get there by public transport, it can take around an hour or so.
Gibside is home to some gorgeous buildings all steeped in history. Visit the chapel, monument or banqueting hall, or attend one of their many events. This is a great place for a nice walk in nature.
