While everyone has been busy relaxing over the Festive period, we have been working hard with further works to improve our Newcastle bed and breakfast. We have been renovating more rooms, knocking room 11 and 12 into one very large room and putting up the 25 new feature mirrors up. We couldn’t do it all without Dermot, our handyman extraordinaire, who has been continuing to decorate the room to a high standard.
All the stylish vintage wrought iron chairs, that we have collected from antique fairs up and down the country, have gone off to be shot blasted and powder coated. We have decided on an antique cream or a light olive colour. Seeing the first samples this week…very excited. Rob our carpenter has been restoring the amazing vintage upholstered beds that we have sourced from France, as well as, adding intricate details to some of the wardrobes that we are refurbishing.
Over Christmas we have been fully closed and will be closed up until Monday 9th January to fit out the new bathrooms, re-plaster, redecorate, re-carpet etc.
The following pictures show some of the works that have been completed over the last 4 weeks.
One of the bed and breakfast’s vintage Edwardian fireplaces is currently being restored with Olde Worlde Fireplaces at Blandford Square. It is being given a fabulous grey marble mantle and surrounds, to be brought back to its former glory. We can’t wait to see it in pride of place in the dining room.
Here is the wonderful Dermot in action, restoring the porch entrance.
The guys stripping out rooms 11 and 12, ready to make into one large room with great views of Jesmond Dene. On the first day of demolition the dust was unbelievable, but on seeing the great new space it was all worth it.

Overall, it has been a successful December and now we are in January. So tomorrow the 3rd of January, the builders are back. The plumbers are in to decommission some of the old bathrooms and install the gorgeous chic new ones. The electricians are back to put up the final chandeliers and decommission some of the old shaver points. And of course, Dermot is back in decorating and Rob is back continuing to restore the Vintage French beds.
Happy New Year to all our lovely guests who have supported us in 2011 and we look forward to seeing returning guests and welcoming new guests to the hotel. We will continue to improve the hotel over the next 6 months and will keep you posted on the newly renovated rooms.
