Chandelier Going Up In The Hall

Finally, the weather is improving…we are delighted that the sun is out over our bed and breakfast in Newcastle. Spring has finally sprung. We have been busy buying some new plants, repairing the roof to room 16’s bay window, after the gales, hail and tonnes of snow we have had in Newcastle over the winter.

We are so looking forward to Dermot, our wonderful decorator coming back to touch up the paint work on the facade of the building and plant some spring bulbs in our wonderful vintage planters. We have chosen some superb Boston Ivy, which will be planted at certain points around the Rosebery Hotel. It will grow up the building and be a gorgeous rich red colour in Autumn. This is a boutique bed and breakfast, after all, she has to be looking her best.

Rob, Liam and Darren, the electricians have been busy installing a fabulous over-sized French Vintage chandelier today and we are delighted with their efforts, up and working in just 3 hours! The timber joists had to be reinforced in the ceiling…no mean feat! The chandelier was sourced at a vintage fair and we have lovingly restored each arm and facet to this magnificent piece – we have spent man an evening polishing each crystal drop.

Elaborate Chandelier

We have hand tied each crystal with brass wire, with the help of jewellery pliers. It has been a joy to restore and it’s lovely that we are able to bring items back to life. The next project is a large oak window arch that we found in a skip. We are going to chisel the panels of glass out, paint it the matching Farrow and Ball colour of the porch, back it with a mirror and secure just outside the hotel above the love seat.
