From stepping into the Theatre Royal to watch a breathtaking famed show to visiting one of Jesmond’s most popular food markets located just minutes from the hotel on foot, Newcastle in Autumn has something to offer for anyone and everyone!

The Theatre Royal

What? Located on Grey Street in the heart of Newcastle’s thriving city centre, The Theatre Royal is not only a place to go and watch a fantastic show but also wander around the beautiful area in which it is located. Grey Street is an iconic street in Newcastle built by Richard Grainger and known for its beautiful architecture alongside a vast selection of cafés, restaurants and bars.

Theatre Royal Exhibition

What? This is a free-entry exhibition bringing historical gems from the Theatre Royal. It will take place at Newcastle City Library. The exhibition will be displaying unseen playbills, diary entries, billboard posters, programmes, and biographies and more from the period of 1781 – 1990 brought from the large Theatre Royal Archive. This exhibition is in honour of National Heritage Week and is the perfect outing for anyone interested in theatre or Newcastle’s local history. Ask a member of staff at The Rosebery Hotel for directions to the Theatre via foot, bus or taxi!

When and where? Room 7, Level 6 of the City Library, 33 New Bridge Street West, NE18 8AX from Thursday 10th September to late November.

Monday to Thursday: 8.30am – 8pm

Friday: 8.30am – 5:30pm

Saturday: 9.30am – 5:30pm

Sunday: 11am – 5pm


Food Market on Armstrong Bridge

What? Calling out to all lovers of food! The Armstrong Bridge is placed in the heart of Jesmond just next to the scenic park known as Jesmond Dene. The Food Market is planned to be held on the bridge on the third Saturday of every month. A few stalls that are already involved with the event are Emily’s Brownies, Northumbrian Smokehouse, Wheatberry, Middle Eastern street food business, and The Fudge Parlour…to name a few! This event is extra special as it not only combines the accessibility to foods from all over the world but also gives visitors a chance to see the Armstrong Bridge in all its glory! The Rosebery hotel is less than a minutes walk away from the Armstrong Bridge, which is the perfect for our guests to pop out and have a taste of the beautiful foods the market has on offer!

When and where? The food market on Armstrong Bridge will be open from 10am until 3pm on the third Saturday of every month. Find a flyer for the Food Market on the Armstrong Bridge in reception!

The Boiler Shop Steamer

What? This is one of Newcastle’s most popular monthly events! Merging food, drink, music and art it’s an energetic event recommended for couples or groups of friends; the Boiler Shop Steamer is an entertaining afternoon that rolls on into the later hours of the evening. The atmosphere is robust and unique.

When and where? The Boiler Shop, Robert Stephenson Centre, Sussex Street, Newcastle, NE1 3PD. Open and held on the first Friday and Saturday of each month. Friday from 5:30pm until midnight and Saturday from 12:00pm until midnight.

North Shields Fish Quay

What? A popular area for visitors in Newcastle, North Shields’ Fish Quay is a pulsating and lively ambience with many places to eat and drink including classic fish restaurants to make visitors really get a feel for the vivacious Quay. It is a scenic area and definitely worth visiting even if it’s only to take in the breathtaking backdrop and fresh air, or even stop at one of the local warm and hospitable pubs which serve real ales and fine wines. You could even take a walk through North Shields town centre that you can reach via bus or foot.

Afternoon Tea at The Biscuit Factory

What? This is an endearing outing for a couple, mother and daughter or even a few friends. Afternoon tea takes place all over the world, what’s special about The Biscuit Factory’s afternoon tea is that the food adapted to our culture setting and includes locally sourced teas. This offers a more peaceful and intimate environment for those keen to give it a try and we’re sure it’ll be an occasion to remember surrounded by delicious foods and beverages alongside excellent company.

When and where? The Biscuit Factory: 16 Stoddart Street, Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE2 1AN. Friday 14th November until Friday 30th December available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm.

“Made in Gateshead” – an art exhibition by Aubrey Anderson

What? For all those art enthusiasts here’s one for you! This one’s extra special as it’s the first Art Exhibition ever held by the Low Fell Library, so it sounds like you’re in for a treat! The exhibition is primarily based on the work of Aubrey Anderson. To make this exhibition even more extraordinary; it’s rugby themed! Perfect for any of you Rugby World Cup supporters!

When and where? Running from Tuesday 15th September until Saturday 24th October at the Low Fell Library

Rugby World Cup Screenings

What? With the Rugby World Cup 2015 in full swing, what better way than to watch the matches amongst a great atmosphere? Sage Gateshead is screening every match live for all you rugby fanatics! Offering food and beverages it’s the perfect set up to watch the rugby matches locally here in Newcastle! Not only will there be the rugby to watch but Sage Gateshead are welcoming many musical acts to keep the entertainment buzzing! Sunday Quayside Market

What? An event for everyone, and even better, it’s a free event! This market offers a lively and thriving outdoor experience with an array of goods on offer for sale! Including crafts, jewellery, and world foods to satisfy your sweet and savoury tooth. If you have any doggies feel free to bring them along as dog treats and accessories are often on sale. Make sure you give the creator of our fabulous mirror in the hotel reception, Cotfield Mirrors, a visit!
