Restoration At The Rosebery Bed and Breakfast Newcastle

By October 18, 2011 No Comments

We’re the busiest and hardest working bed and breakfast Newcastle has ever seen! It’s been very busy last few days. Our handyman extraordinaire, Dermot has been restoring the fabulous ceiling roses and cornicing in one of the bedrooms. By stripping it back to its original detail, by taking layers and layers of year’s worth of paint off, it has uncovered breathtaking detail. There was a little bit of damage to the ceiling rose, but with his skill, he has remodelled an exact replica of the plaster work and replaced the damage. You would never know where the damage was. Amazing skill!

Restoration at the Rosebery

Liam, Darren, Billy and the rest of the guys, have been busy fitting out the new bathrooms, which are coming together well. In addition, the decorators start today and the carpets are being measured this morning…exciting times! We are currently sourcing new tables and chairs for the dining room. We were thinking about a uniform look, where all the tables and chairs are the same, but we are now veering to a more shabby chic look, with different styles of chairs, all similar – vintage Edwardian garden chairs and marble-topped tables.

Restoring Vintage Items

To keep in with our boutique bed and breakfast theme, we are trying to source two huge chandeliers for the dining room. We have some gorgeous crystal vintage wall lights, but we still need two large feature chandeliers to complete the room.

We are still undecided what colour to paint the exterior of the porch. After trying nine tester shades already, we are off to get more colour samples today. However, we have found some amazing over-sized chrome door furniture, to give the entrance to the bed and breakfast some gravitas.

In other news, we are taking a trip to Taylors of Harrogate later this week, to sample all their speciality teas for the hotel and learn how to make a vast array of coffees that are available.

The work never seems to end, but we are really enjoying it and hope that the guests will love the results when it is all done. Keep up to date with all the work happening at The Rosebery Bed and Breakfast on our official Facebook page.
